Use your brand name
Recognition beats cleverness. If people already know your name, put it in the domain.

Keep it short
Two or three words. Anything longer gets mistyped when someone reads it off a poster.

Skip hyphens and numbers
They cause confusion over the phone and in radio adverts. “Is that a dash or a space?”

Think locally
If .com is gone, .co.ug is not a consolation prize — for a Ugandan audience it signals you are local.

Check the trademark
A domain being free does not mean the name is. A quick URSB search saves an expensive dispute later.

What is a domain name, in plain terms?
It is the address people type to reach you. Instead of remembering a string of numbers, they type yourbusiness.co.ug. You rent it yearly from the registry, and while the registration is current, nobody else can use it.
Should I choose .co.ug or .com?
If your customers are in Uganda, .co.ug tells them so immediately and is usually still available. If you sell beyond the region, .com carries broader recognition. Plenty of businesses register both and point one at the other — it costs little and stops a competitor taking the pair.
Do I really own the domain?
You are the registrant, which is as close to ownership as domains get. It is filed under your name and contact details, not ours. You can move it to another registrar whenever you like, and we will hand over the auth code without argument.
How fast does it work after I pay?
Global extensions like .com and .org are usually live within a minute. The .ug family goes through the national registry and normally completes the same working day.
What happens if I forget to renew?
We email at 60, 30 and 7 days before expiry, and auto-renew is on unless you switch it off. If a domain does lapse there is a redemption window where it can be recovered, though the registry charges a penalty for it.
Can I buy a domain here and host it elsewhere?
Yes. Change the nameservers in your panel and point it anywhere you like. We would rather host it, but we are not going to make leaving difficult.
